Cut and sew, not printed blanks

A printed blank is a stock tee with your artwork on it. The body, the neck rib, the shoulder width and the length belong to whoever made the blank, and anyone can buy the same one.

Cut and sew means the tee is made from flat fabric to your pattern. You choose the fabric and its weight, the body length, the chest width, the shoulder drop, the sleeve length and opening, the neck rib depth, and the hem. On a T-shirt — a garment with very few components — those choices are the entire product. It costs more per unit than printing a blank and it takes longer, and it is the difference between a brand and a print shop.

Fabric weight

T-shirt weight is quoted in GSM and the range in common use runs from light summer jersey up to the heavyweight fabrics streetwear brands favour. Heavier fabric holds a boxy shape, resists curling at the hem and drapes with more structure; lighter fabric is cooler and softer but will not hold an architectural silhouette.

We source against your specification rather than holding one house weight. Give us a GSM, or send a tee you want matched — the physical reference is more useful, because it carries hand and drape that a number does not.

  • Combed cotton jersey across a range of weights
  • Heavyweight jersey for structured boxy fits
  • Slub and textured jerseys
  • Cotton–poly blends for shrinkage control
  • Ribbed and waffle fabrics for alternative styles

Fit

  • Boxy — wide chest, short body, sits at the waistband
  • Oversized — wide and long with a dropped shoulder
  • Standard — follows the body with a set-in shoulder
  • Long-line — extended body length
  • Cropped and women's-specific cuts

These are separate patterns, not size adjustments. A "size up" standard tee is not a boxy tee — the proportions are wrong in a way that is obvious on the body. Specify the fit you want with measurements.

Construction details

On a garment this simple, construction is visible. Side-seamed rather than tubular gives a cleaner fit and lets the pattern shape the body. A taped shoulder seam stops the neckline stretching out with wear. Twin-needle hems at sleeve and body are standard; a raw or rolled hem is a deliberate look.

The neck is worth specifying properly: rib depth, whether the rib is the same fabric or a heavier one, and whether the neck is bound or set-in. A neck that loses shape after a few washes is the fastest way for a customer to conclude a garment is cheap.

Printing and branding

  • Screen print, including discharge and water-based inks for a soft hand
  • DTG for photographic and multi-colour artwork at lower quantities
  • Puff and high-density print
  • Embroidery for small chest marks and sleeve details
  • Woven and printed neck labels, or a tagless heat-transfer label
  • Sewn hem tags and side labels

Water-based and discharge inks sit into the fabric rather than on it, which suits a heavyweight cotton tee and avoids the plastic feel of a thick plastisol print. They behave differently on dark grounds, so discuss the colourway at quotation.

Frequently asked questions

Do you print on blanks or manufacture the tee?
We manufacture. The tee is cut and sewn from flat fabric to your pattern, so the fabric, weight, body length, shoulder drop and neck are all yours to specify — not inherited from someone else's blank.
What GSM can you produce?
We source against your specification rather than holding a single house weight. Send a GSM figure or a tee whose weight you want matched; the physical reference carries hand and drape that a number does not.
Is a boxy tee just a larger standard tee?
No. They are separate patterns. A sized-up standard tee has the wrong proportions in a way that is obvious on the body — the shoulder and body length do not scale the way a boxy fit needs.
Can you do tagless neck labels?
Yes. A printed or heat-transferred inner label replaces the woven one for a tagless finish. Woven neck labels, sewn hem tags and side labels are all available too.
Which print method should we use?
Screen print for flat spot colour, DTG for photographic artwork at lower quantities, puff or high-density for a raised finish. Water-based and discharge inks give a softer hand on heavyweight cotton but behave differently on dark grounds.
