A set is not two garments ordered together

The thing that makes a sweatsuit work is that the top and the bottom read as one piece when worn, and that is harder than ordering a hoodie and a pair of sweatpants in the same colour.

Both halves are cut from the same fabric lot so the colour matches exactly — two lots of the same nominal colour will not. The rib on the cuffs, hem and waistband is sourced once and used on both. And the proportions have to be resolved together: a cropped boxy top over wide pants is a different set from a long hoodie over a tapered leg, and the balance is decided at pattern stage rather than discovered at sampling.

  • Hoodie and sweatpant sets
  • Crewneck and sweatpant sets
  • Zip hoodie sets
  • Short sets with matching shorts
  • Cropped and oversized women's cuts
  • Half-zip and quarter-zip tops

The pants

Sweatpants carry fewer decisions than the top, but the ones they carry are the ones people notice.

  • Straight, tapered, wide and baggy legs
  • Elasticated waist with internal or external drawcord
  • Rib cuff, elasticated cuff or open hem
  • Side seam pockets, patch pockets or zip pockets
  • Back pocket, welted or patch
  • Stacked length for a deliberate break over the shoe

Leg opening and inseam should be specified as measurements. Baggy and wide are the two most over-used words on a sweatsuit enquiry and the most common reason a first sample comes back wrong.

Fabric and rib

French terry gives a structured set that holds its shape; brushed fleece gives a softer, warmer, heavier-draping one. Both take embroidery and print well.

Rib is worth treating as a decision rather than a default. Matched rib disappears into the garment. Contrast rib at the cuff, hem and waistband is a deliberate design choice and is what gives a set a finished, considered look. Rib weight also matters — a light rib on a heavy French terry loses its shape within a season.

  • French terry, loop-back inside
  • Brushed-back fleece
  • Cotton and cotton-rich blends
  • Cotton–poly blends for shrinkage control
  • Matched or contrast rib, specified by weight

Decoration across a set

Branding on a sweatsuit usually runs across both halves — a chest mark on the top and a thigh or hip mark on the pants — and the two need to be in proportion to each other. A logo scaled for a chest is often too large on a leg.

Embroidery suits terry and fleece well. Puff print and high-density print give weight to a smaller mark. Chenille reads as heritage. Silicone and rubber patches give a clean modern finish. All can be combined across a set, and we will advise on placement scaling at quotation.

Size runs

Sets are usually sold as one size per customer, so the top and bottom have to be graded together and consistently. If you sell tops and bottoms separately as well, tell us at enquiry — it affects how the size run is planned and how the goods are packed.

Frequently asked questions

Will the top and bottom colours match exactly?
Yes, because both halves are cut from the same fabric lot. Two lots of the same nominal colour will not match reliably, which is why a set is planned as one order rather than as two garments.
Can we mix a hoodie top with shorts instead of pants?
Yes. Short sets run the same way as full sets. The proportions are resolved at pattern stage, so tell us the combination you want before sampling.
Can you do contrast rib?
Yes, and it is worth deciding deliberately. Contrast rib on cuffs, hem and waistband is what gives a set a considered look. Rib weight matters too — a light rib on heavy terry loses shape within a season.
Can you produce cropped women's cuts?
Yes. Cropped and oversized women's cuts are separate patterns rather than scaled-down men's sizing, so specify them as their own style at enquiry.
Can tops and bottoms be sold separately?
Yes, but tell us at enquiry. It changes how the size run is planned and how the goods are packed, which is easier to set up at the start than to rework later.
