Built for contact

Rugby is the most demanding sport we manufacture for in terms of what the garment has to survive. A jersey is pulled, gripped and dragged for eighty minutes, and the failure point is almost always a seam rather than the fabric.

Match jerseys are therefore built with reinforced shoulder and side seams and a tighter body fit that gives an opponent less to hold. Collars are reinforced for the same reason. This is construction rather than fabric choice, and it is why a rugby jersey costs more to make than a soccer shirt in the same material.

  • Match jerseys, tight-fit and regular-fit
  • Training and drill tops
  • Match and training shorts
  • Team tracksuits and benchwear
  • Rain jackets and sideline layers
  • Socks knitted to your colourway

Match fit and training fit

A tight-fit match jersey uses a stretch fabric cut close to the body, so there is less loose material for a tackler to grab. A regular-fit jersey is cut with more room and is what most amateur and social sides prefer to wear.

Training tops are usually the looser of the two and made in a lighter fabric, since they are worn more often and washed harder. Most clubs order both, and ordering them together keeps the branding consistent across the set.

Fabric

  • Polyester–elastane stretch knits for tight-fit match jerseys
  • Heavier performance polyester for regular-fit jerseys
  • Traditional cotton-rich fabrics for heritage and social kit
  • Durable woven polyester for shorts, with reinforced seams
  • Sports mesh panels for ventilation

Shorts

Rugby shorts take as much load as the jersey. They are cut shorter and fuller than soccer shorts to allow the leg to move under load, and the waistband and seat seams are the points that fail first, so both are reinforced. A drawcord waistband is standard rather than optional.

Decoration

Sublimation works well on polyester rugby jerseys and is the usual route for multi-colour hoops, sponsor panels and gradient designs, because the design is dyed into the fabric and will not peel under repeated grabbing.

Embroidered club crests are traditional and hold well on the heavier match jersey fabrics. On a lightweight training top, embroidery can pull, so a printed or heat-applied crest is often the better call. Numbers are usually printed or heat-applied on the back; on a heritage cotton jersey they are sometimes sewn.

  • Sublimated hoops, panels and sponsor artwork
  • Embroidered club crests and badges
  • Printed or heat-applied numbers
  • Sponsor placements front, back and sleeve
  • Woven neck labels and custom size labels

Frequently asked questions

Are your rugby jerseys reinforced?
Yes. Shoulder seams, side seams and collars are reinforced, because on a rugby jersey the failure point is almost always a seam rather than the fabric. It is a construction difference, which is why a rugby jersey costs more to make than a soccer shirt in the same material.
Can you make tight-fit match jerseys?
Yes. A tight-fit jersey uses a stretch knit cut close to the body so there is less loose material to grab. Regular-fit jerseys in a heavier polyester are also available, and most clubs order both.
Can you produce hooped designs?
Yes. Multi-colour hoops are usually sublimated, which dyes the design into the fabric so it will not peel under repeated grabbing. Cut-and-sew hooped construction is also possible on heritage builds.
Should the crest be embroidered?
On a heavier match jersey, yes — embroidery holds well. On a lightweight training top it can pull, so a printed or heat-applied crest is often the better call. We will recommend one when quoting.
Do you make rugby shorts?
Yes, cut shorter and fuller than soccer shorts to allow movement under load, with reinforced waistband and seat seams and a drawcord waistband as standard.
